I was thinking about time, or lack of it, I have been so busy organizing an event at Campus London for last night that the poor blog took a back seat. So I am going to share some positive interventions towards happiness from Tuesday’s workshop, or as I prefer to call them, nudges for happy.

See

Light vibrates within various frequencies.

It enters our eye and is interpreted by the brain as colour.

It is an important aspect of our visual experience and influences how we feel.

These colours can help lift mood.

Yellow   –    Happy colour

Lifts spirit

Optimistic

Orange   –   Stimulates

Warm, Happy

Joyful, Energetic

Green   –     Calming

Relaxing

Reassuring

“Colour is the place where our brain and the universe meet.”

Paul Klee

Smell

We have conditioned responses to smell which has the ability to change our mood. It affects the hypothalamus which in turn affects hormone production.

Sensory pleasure can reduce stress and anxiety, decrease the experience of pain and enhance immune function.

Citrus essential oils have inherently joyful properties.

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousands of miles and all the years we have lived.”

 Helen Keller

Do

Our happiness and wellbeing are greatly affected by the act of giving, contribution and kindness. It has a positive impact on the giver and recipient.

The 10th cranial nerve known as the Vagus Nerve affects many organs within the body including the heart, lungs and digestive tract. It has been called the Nerve of Compassion because its activation can create a feeling of wellbeing and happiness.

The vagus nerve releases chemicals that assist relaxation, learning and memory. It can be stimulated by meditation, relaxation and performing acts of kindness.

So why not go and do something good for someone as a treat to yourself.

“Remember there is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”

 Scott Adams
